Introduction to the Programme
The right to work in a safe and healthy environment is entrenched in the South African Constitution. The OHS Act No. 85 of 1993 stipulates that the CEO should make an appointment of 16.2 who is a senior staff member, that who will in return ensure there is an appointed SHE Representative (Safety, Health and Environmental Representative), a First Aider, Fire Fighter and Incident investigator . These employees will carry out day to day checks and report back to the 16.2 manager in the event of any potential risks and fatalities. Thus each organisation will require the services of at least one Occupational Health and Safety Practitioner.
The accountability for Occupational Health and safety is shared by all stakeholders and there are well established global practices and processes for ensuring Occupational Health and Safety.
