Introduction to the Programme
The OHS Assistant is an entry level position into the discipline. It is the entry point to a suite of qualifications that underpins the professional establishment and implementation of Occupational Health and Safety function within organisations.
The purpose of this part qualification is to prepare a learner to function as an Occupational Health and Safety Assistant.
Knowledge and skills that will be acquired from this qualification, will enable an OHS Assistant to perform administration, coordination and compliance monitoring within the Occupational Health and Safety function.
This part qualification provides the Occupational Health and Safety theoretical and practical competencies to administer compliance and prevention.

Learning Objectives
Occupational Health and Safety Practitioners help to promote health and safety practices in the work place and are trained to recognise hazards related to health and safety, they understand how to assess the risks that might arise from these hazards and they know how to control these risks.
Upon completion of components of learning, learners will have gained knowledge, skills and competencies to perform the following broad tasks:
- Maintain appropriate OHS document management systems.
- Execute the basic administrative duties required for the management of OHS meetings.
- Apply basic data analysis and compile basic OHS reports using standard reporting formats.

Requirements
- Learners seeking access to this occupational certificate must be in possession of a Further Education and Training Certificate at NQF Level 3 or Grade 11
